Hike to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten through rice fields. Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility. Farmhouse dinner with a local family.

Royal Heritage Museum in Ta Dzong above the fortress. Trongsa Dzong courtyards. The murals here are among the finest in the country.

5 to 6 hours east through Bhutan’s interior. Trongsa Dzong appears from miles away — a fortress that once controlled all east-west movement in the country. Whoever held Trongsa held Bhutan.
